THINK THEY KNOW THE APPLE IPHONE DOES NOT HAVE INSTANT MESSAGING?

This has been the scene out the front of the Apple Store in Soho since Wednesday afternoon... About 55 hrs pre launch. I didnt have the heart to tell them that it doesnt have IM on the phone. I still cannot believe it.

HOW CAN APPLE PUT OUT A WEB ENABLED PHONE WITHOUT IM ? THE SIDEKICK, TREO AND BLACKBERRY DO...

The iPhone Doesnt Have Instant Messaging. WHAT??????

So, I am sitting here on the Wednesday before the Friday opening of the iPhone and I am seriously considering not purchasing it.

Why ? Because it does not have instant messaging. I am sorry but Apple.. I feel like we have hit a weird period in our relationship. I dont understand. I am confused. A little hurt and most of all... kinda thinking you may have changed.

I thought we had history. I thought when you sat down to make this phone, the first thing you would have put on there was IM. So when I am on a train in the middle of nowhere... or waiting in the airport... or just want to say hey to my parents are you telling me I am going to be all alone ? No live connections ?

My Treo gives me IM. Why wont you Apple iPhone ?

I am not sure I can do this.

Adidas. Well Done.

All of the sports marketing people I know on the client side have the same gripe - the waste of sponsorship time with sponsored players/celebs. They have things in the contract like 15 appearances a year - they end up using 3. There seems to be tremendous focus on getting them on board and then not enough focus on getting their money's worth.

In the video below, David Beckham and Reggie Bush play football and futbol.

A great use of sponsorship dollars here. This idea would make headline prime time of any sports channel. For those who dont know Reggie Bush see here. He is basically the new young face of the NFL.

Adidas. Respect.

Adidas own Reebok.. Yo Adidadians, shoot your Reebokians an email up at Canton, MA. Maybe RBK will do something with Yao Ming. Never seen a massive sponsorship deal go so unused. Free money to Yao. I can count one maybe two spots and one face on the I AM WHAT I AM campaign.

Imagine Being In Rupert's Office Today

So Mr Murdoch is smack in the middle of one of his corporate feats. I watched/listened/devoured every moment when he beat out Echo Star for the control of Direc TV/Hughes. The wrangling was incredible.

There is a great article in the New York Times today - who, by the way, seem to be reveling in their role as the provocateur in this situation.

Imagine being in that sprawling, glass encased office on the 8th floor on 6th ave at the News Corp building today.

Here is the article:

Must Be Fun Working At Google Maps

For mine, the progression of Google Maps is one of the most exciting things happening on the web right now. Google Earth continues to blow me away and Google Maps is becoming an indispensable tool for me.

I specifically wanted to highlight My Maps by Google.

Check out the Reindeer Map here.

My Maps allows you to create your own map with marks, notes, locations and lines that you create and then can use and share. This is a form of digital graffiti. You can make a note on anything, anywhere in the world. Here is where my sister lives, here is my fave restaurant when I lived in Sydney, here is where I went to primary school. Its like building up a virtual physcial diary. (for those who endured my obsessed with google earth phase.. i apologize for the relapse here)

I currently use it for 2 things:

1. Personally
Living in New York, you walk places all the time and think, “oh, I must remember that for next time I am going to dinner in this area.” However, because New York streets mostly look the same and its all numbers for streets and avenues, its near impossible to remember. So now I use My Maps as soon as I find somewhere I want to go. I go and create a placemark on the map and make a personal note on it. Done – my very own map.

2. Friends + Fam
You know when people come to town and you would like to just remove a small data chip from your head and put it in their brain so you can stop being the tourist bureau for them ? Well, now you can send them you’re My Map link. I have created a specific My Map (yes, you can create as many as you want) for friends that come into town. Placemarks on things to do and see with notes on all of them.

Here is the cooooooolest thing.. You can export all this information as a .kmz file which means they can open it in Google Earth, hit tour and sit back and watch a virtual slideshow roll on before their eyes.

So, get in and have a play. Never forget a cool place you walk by again.

Brightcove Releases Aftermix. We're Using It.

We use Brightcove as a video solution for a company we have called FootyHeads.com.au. We used to use VideoEgg but found there video quality to drop significantly over the past few months.

We are a beta test user for Aftermix and my initial response is that this could be an exceptional 'on the fly' editing tool. Having to edit and re=export video is timely and almost never happens. But in a world where we are trying to keep constantly fresh, I can see how this will help us re-release video excerpts or create quick topical references and quick promos for our video shows.

Here is a screen grab:

I Heart Wii

The addiction thats going on with my Wii this weekend hasnt been seen since.. um.. perhaps Xbox 360 Project Gotham.. Then before that (and probably the biggest) was Mario Kart on Nintendo 64.

The Wii is one of the most creative things I have ever interacted with. You can almost feel the creators looking over your shoulder giddy with sheer satisfaction. The fun that has gone into this whole eco system is real and serious. Child hearts have been given real voice. There are very little compromise anywhere. It is like the generation who has been frustrated with trade offs and incompatibalities now have the keys to the car.

And.. this is where this post has to finish because I have just connected the Wii to my Apple Airport (with like 2 clicks - phenomenal) and its now time to see what this baby can suck down.

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Love.

Wii All Need A Little Mii Time

Trying our hardest on a Friday afternoon to hook up a Nintendo Wii to an Apple 30 inch High Def screen...

(dear clients - we started way early today :-) so this is research time)

And this was just sent in by a fellow Wii fanatic.
